"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it’. Was George Santayana missing something?

George Santayana

The P5 + 1 leaders surely remember the past and yet they are repeating it.  How come?

I cannot believe that either David Cameron or François Hollande do not remember the past. They must have read Churchill’s Gathering Storm and the British offer of Anglo French Union of June 16, 1940, just days before France capitulated. Neither do I believe that Vladimir Putin does not remember the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact and how little it helped the USSR avoid the war. Putin might never mention that at the same time Churchill came to power, May 1940, facing Hitler alone, Stalin was murdering the 20000 Polish officers at Katyn, but Putin remembers June 22, 1941, the day Hitler invaded the USSR.

So if they remember the past how come they are still repeating it? The answer is that the P5 + 1 leaders think they are not.  They think they are not because in contrast to Churchill they do not know what their enemy believes in. They have no clue. They have never read the Koran or the hadith. They have no idea whom they are negotiating with. Raymond Ibrahim explains this ignorance well in   Obama Cites Ayatollah’s Fatwa on Road to Nuclear War

So the only ones who can protect the West are those who both remember the past and know what their enemy stands for and therefore recognize that they would be repeating the past if they did not act.

The only leader I know who meets this condition is Netanyahu.
